Introduction

Welcome to the shared procedures website!

This is a new and exciting way to find out what you need to do if you work with children, young people or families, to keep children safe from harm or possible abuse.

If you are a child or a family member, this site will tell you what to expect if you live in any one of the 12 areas listed below.

  • Bath & North East Somerset
  • Bristol City
  • Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly
  • Devon
  • Gloucestershire
  • North Somerset
  • Plymouth
  • Somerset
  • South Gloucestershire
  • Swindon
  • Torbay
  • Wiltshire

This website is the first time that so many agencies have come together in this way to ensure that all professionals are working to the same procedures in an open and inclusive way with children and young people.

The site isn't just about a set of procedures. It is also about good practice, evidence from research, and what the government guidance says (Working Together to Safeguard Children 2006). We will also be adding some of the things that children and young people tell us about their experiences and regular updated information about what's going on in the region and across the county to support our work in child protection.

The website currently only contains "Managing Individual Cases", but will be growing quickly over coming months to include other important procedures and protocols. We will inform you of these on the front page news scroller of this website as they are added. When you visit this website you will always be looking at the most up to date version of the procedures.

I hope you will find this website helpful, and are excited about this approach as am I and my many hardworking colleagues across the South West region.

(Ruby Parry, 2007)
